You Didn't Have to Be So Nice" is the second single released by The Lovin' Spoonful, released in 1965. The song was featured on their 1966 album, Daydream. It reached on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1966. It has been cited as an inspiration for the composition of the song "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys. It was inspired by Nurit Wilde per songwriter Steve Boone. It was covered in 1966 by The Grass Roots on their first album, Where Were You When I Needed You.

Same songs as on the "Do You Believe In Magic" Album but this release added the song "You Didn't Have To Be So Nice" as the first track on side A. Also the title of the album was changed to "You Didn't Have To Be So Nice". The matrix on the run out on side B also has the inscription P 1965 A6 W with the p as an print right symbol.
