Edgar Willmar Froese (6 June 1944 – 20 January 2015) was a German artist and electronic music pioneer, best known for founding the electronic music group Tangerine Dream. Although his solo and group recordings prior to 2003 name him as "Edgar Froese", his solo albums from 2003 onwards bear the name "Edgar W. Froese".

Hi! This is a record which I listened to a lot when I was a teenager and it still has it's charm. Edgar Froese's album 'Macula Transfer'. In the 1970ies there was a remarkable electronic music scene in Germany. Most commonly known is the band Kraftwerk. But there were a lot of others: Klaus Schulze, Robert Schroeder, Popol Vuh, P'cock, Jane, Novalis and also quite well known: Tangerine Dream of which Edgar Froese was a member. This is a solo album from him. Macula Transfer was released 1976 on Brain Records

Edgar Froese ‎– Macula Transfer. Label: Manikin ‎– mrcd7030. Format: CD, Album, Reissue. Recorded in June at the Amber Studio Berlin. The material was composed during different flights in 75 and 76. This album is dedicated to David . Iggy, Corinne, all the nice people at the château and the Ghost of Chopin. CD-design by Frank Makowski, xcenterqcww. Used under license from Motor Music GmbH, Hamburg.

From "Macula Transfer", Edgar Froese will now propose, in his solo albums, material different from what TANGERINE DREAM will be doing. Recorded before "Stratosfear" in summer 1976, this third effort may be the most original from the German pioneer. The compositions are mostly ambient, non-melodic and do not contain many changes. Anyways, Macula Transfer was his third solo album, and the theme was on flight. Each song title is actually an airline flight number. While QUANTAS (actually QANTAS) is a bit obvious, the others aren't: OS is Austrian Airlines, AF is Air France, PA is Pan-Am, and IF is Interflug.

Though the LP does make good traveling or background music, most of it is emotionally ambiguous, without enough detail or variety to reward active listening.

Edgar Froese's third solo album, Macula Transfer (the title referring to the sun spots), was recorded just before Tangerine Dream's Stratosfear in summer 1976 by Edgar Froese just on his own using an old 4-track Ampex tape machine that Tangerine Dream had bought from Abbey Road Studios. According to Edgar Froese, there were some differences at the time in TD dynamics and Edgar Froese recorded Macula Transfer just for fun. Macula Transfer was released 1976 in Germany only, and furthermore fans had to wait nearly 22 years for the first official CD release of this rare album in 1998
