The Monkees is the first album by the band the Monkees. It was released in October 1966 by Colgems Records in the United States and RCA Victor in the rest of the world. It was the first of four consecutive . number one albums for the group, taking the top spot on the Billboard 200 for 13 weeks, after which it was displaced by the band's second album. It also topped the UK charts in 1967. The Monkees has been certified quintuple platinum by the RIAA, with sales of over five million copies.
New Monkees was the name of both a . pop rock music group, and a 1987 syndicated television show featuring the group. The 20th anniversary of The Monkees in 1986 generated enough interest that New Monkees was conceived later that year, and launched the following year. The show, a remake of "The Monkees", was produced by Columbia Pictures Television and distributed by Coca-Cola Telecommunications (both are now Sony Pictures Television).
Monkees singer Micky Dolenz discusses the band's new Christmas album, Michael Nesmith's heart surgery, upcoming shows and more. There was a lot of talk about a followup, but nobody could agree on what direction to take.
Changes is the ninth studio album by the Monkees. The album was issued after Michael Nesmith's exit from the band, leaving only Micky Dolenz and Davy Jones to fulfill the recording contract they had signed in the mid-1960s. Changes was their last new album for Colgems Records and the group's last album of all new material until 1987's Pool It. Changes. Studio album by. the Monkees.

The Monkees' first album was a huge success, following on the number one single "Last Train to Clarksville. The Monkees spent 78 weeks on the Billboard chart including an astounding 13 weeks at number one. The record wasn't only a commercial juggernaut, it also stands as one of the great debuts of all time, and while the record and the group have faced criticism from rock purists through the ages, it stands the test of time perfectly well, sounding as alive and as much fun 40 years later. While the Monkees themselves didn't do much more than sing, the singing they did was first-rate. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better pop/rock vocalist than Micky Dolenz; his work on "Take a Giant Step" and "Last Train to Clarksville" is thrilling and bursting with life.
Also making New Monkees useless was the massive cultural shift between 1968 and 1987. And middle-class white people, which New Monkees was squarely aimed at, by and large could do just that, regardless of their generation. Agreeing with me on that point was basically everyone. One album, New Monkees, was released, as was one single What I Want. Neither made any charts. Originally supposed to be on the air for 22 episodes, New Monkees was pulled from syndication early, after 13 episodes, something which almost never happens. In the markets where it actually aired, it was getting beaten by reruns of The Monkees. No big loss for the world.
