Animalize is the twelfth studio album by American rock band Kiss. It was released in 1984 on Mercury Records. The album marked the only appearance by lead guitarist Mark St. John, who replaced Vinnie Vincent in April 1984. At the time of the record's release, Gene Simmons was pursuing a career in acting. Paul Stanley was thus primarily in charge of the album's production and direction.

Kiss frontman Paul Stanley takes command of Kiss and brings them back to the top of the rock world with 'Animalize. Their new look, and another strong album in 1983's Lick It Up, finally turned the tide and brought the band back to the world of platinum record sales and crowded concert halls. The quest to maintain this momentum took a big hit when Frehley's replacement, Vinnie Vincent, left the group prior to the recording of Animalize. That wasn't the biggest loss Stanley was forced to deal with.

Animalize is an album by the American hard rock/heavy metal band Kiss. In a continuation of the commercial resurgence begun with Lick It Up, Animalize was certified platinum by the RIAA on December 12, 1984. It was the highest-selling Kiss album since 1977's Alive II.

Their next album "Animalize" was completed in the Fall of 1984. It should be remembered that it was rather stormy time in the band's history. As Vinnie Vincent who played his fine parts for "Creatures of the night" and "Lick it up" was fired, KISS had to find a new guitarist. While Animalize might lack a lot of recognizable tunes to the casual KISS fan, hardcore KISS Army soldiers realize what a gem this album really is. Like all of the band's other 1980's offerings, it takes a few listens to truly appreciate how good this serving of KISS really is. Recommended.
