AJR’s third full-length album was announced on March 10, 2019 in conjunction with the second single of the album Birthday Party. on various social media platforms. Almost 2 months prior, the first single 100 Bad Days was released, marking the band’s first single since collaborative effort Pretender. A few weeks before Neotheater dropped, the final single was released, Dear Winter an ode.

New York alt-pop collective AJR returns with an intriguing third studio album, ‘Neotheater’ which exemplifies millennial spirit. But I’m weak, and what’s wrong with that? /. Boy, oh boy I love it when I fall for that. Sigh, AJR (Adam Metzger, Jack Metzger & Ryan Metzger), comprised of three brothers from New York, make quite the interesting collective. AJR delivers their own unique brand of pop – yep, it’s definitely alt-pop that’s a bit more left-field than many of the songs gracing the Top 40. Some adore them, while others cry foul of the collective’s millennial-styled alt-pop.

Neotheater is the third studio album by pop band AJR. It was released on April 26, 2019, by the band's label AJR Productions. The album was self-produced by the trio. The 12 tracks were collectively described as "a coming of age tale that hears the band coming to terms with the sacrifices that come with growing older now that they are in their 20s"

The third album from AJR, 2019's thoughtfully buoyant Neotheater, finds the trio of t siblings Adam, Jack, and Ryan Met coloring their effusive pop with themes of twenty-something angst and grappling to find one's place in what can feel like a scary world. The album nicely evokes Fu. s Some Nights; it feels similarly driven by the ennui of millennial helicopter kids caught between the security of living at home and the terrifying promise of life on their own - or at least in a dorm room.

Trio of brothers offer a refreshing antidote to Top 40 gloom on their third album. Usually, AJR treat these slings and arrows with a lighthearted matter-of-factness. They jokingly off-quote Nietzsche ( what doesn’t kill you makes you ugly ) on Break My Face, and Karma turns an unearned lack of good fortune into a buoyant song. The music’s effervescence - mixing hip-hop, EDM and strummy pop, adding strings and horns - makes for an album that flies in the face of modern Top 40’s conventional glumness.
