Closer Than Close" is a 1997 song by American musician Rosie Gaines. After her solo debut in 1985, with The Curtis Ohlson Band from 1987 to 1989 and doing other projects, singer Rosie Gaines joined Prince & The New Power Generation. She continued afterwards as a solo artist and session singer. In 1995, Gaines released the album Closer than Close. The album's title track was remixed and released as a single in 1997.

Rosie Gaines is adored as one of the great contemporary Soul diva's. Her work with Prince took her to centre stage. Rosie's hit by mistake - the speed garage remix of "Closer Than Close" - done after Motown had given up on the track - helped define a genre and got the E-generation dosing on her brand of Soul. And a series of accomplished recordings over the last 20 years have made her Queen of the Modern Soul Scene. Her broad underground and overground appeal is such that a Rosie Gaines record is equally at home on pirate and internet radio, as on mainstream networks.
