In 1957 he performed a recital of Chopin etudes in Milan that drew favorable attention from the national Italian press. He won a second prize in the 1958 Geneva Competition.

25 also, isn't any less exciting - but it makes Etudes Nos. 13-15 (the first three of Op. 25) sound sweeter. It's always interesting to compare the same works at different times in a performer's career, and in this case both are eminently recommendable and enjoyable for different reasons.

Pollini brings a steely intensity to the more dramatic studies-the Revolutionary Etude, O. 0 No. 12, for example, or Op. 25 No. 10-and in the more lyrical ones is plangent without being tearstained.
