The Rip Chords' first album (released in early 1964) was Hey Little Cobra and other Hot Rod Hits album, which peaked at No. 56 on the national charts. The album featured balanced contributions from Stewart, Bringas, Melcher, and Johnston. Of the 11 vocals, Melcher sang lead on five, Bringas sang lead on five and Stewart sang lead on one. Instrumentals by the Wrecking Crew filled out the album. Ernie Bringas, Jesusgate: A History Of Concealment Unraveled, October 2012, Rainbow Ridge Publishing, page 2
The Rip Chords' debut album features equal smatterings of the original group ("Gone," "Here I Stand," "She Still Thinks I Still Care," "Ding Dong") featuring Phil Stewart's soaring Four Seasons-inspired falsetto and the more Beach Boys-oriented sound of Bruce Johnston and Terry Melcher (nice covers of "409," "Drag City," "Little Deuce Coupe," and "Shut Down") with the best session players

hey little cobra LP. Rip Chords Format: Vinyl. The Rip Chords were essentially originally Phil Stewart and Ernie Bringas, formerly known as the Opposites, augmented or replaced on record by producers Terry Melcher and Bruce Johnston and others, and backed by the top Los Angeles studio guys. Most of the album has a hot-rod theme, including Beach Boys and Jan and Dean revivals among several Melcher/Johnston originals, and is one of the most prime examples of the genre. There are three bonus tracks not found on the original album, these being Karen, the 1964 single Don't Be Scared and its instrumental flipside Bunny Hill.
