The Rip Chords were an early-1960s American vocal group, originally known as the Opposites, composed of Ernie Bringas and Phil Stewart. The group eventually expanded into four primary voices, adding Columbia producer Terry Melcher and co-producer Bruce Johnston (later became a member of the Beach Boys). This group came to be associated with the hot-rod and surf genres of that day, although their first single ( Here I Stand ) did not reflect those styles. They recorded for Columbia Records in Hollywood from 1962 to 1965. The group placed five (5) singles on the Billboard Hot 100. They are best.

Hey Little Cobra and Othe. has been added to your Basket. Melcher had written a song called ‘Hey Little Cobra’ with Carol Conners and Melcher decided to record this under the name of The Rip Chords, with only himself and future Beach Boy Bruce Johnston on vocals. His lead vocal was outstanding with Johnston doing the falsetto and the single reached number four on the American charts in 1964, with an album quickly following titled ‘Hey Little Cobra And Other Hot Rod Hits’. In the Summer of ‘64, the band had another hit with ‘Three Window Coupe’, written by Jan Berry (of Jan And Dean fame) and Roger Christian. Again, an album of the same title quickly.
