iki is Värttinä's 11th album (9th studio album), released in 2003. It continues Värttinä's trend of having more original compositions, while retaining a folk influence in the songs and their style. iki was released on February 28, 2003 by BMG Finland in Finland, to coincide with Värttinä's 20th anniversary concert in Helsinki

Värttinä is the first album by the band of the same name, Värttinä. On it, the 21-member band performs traditional Karelian folk songs. It was originally self-released in 1987 on vinyl and cassette. In 1992, it was re-released in Finland by Mipu Music. In 1997 it was reissued in Japan by Warner Japan. In the same year, it was reissued in the United States by Finlandia Innovators, under the title Värttinä - The First Album. Ruskie neitsyt" ("Brown-haired Maiden") – 2:19.

Värttinä’s seventh album, Vihma, was released in 1998 on Wicklow Records, the new label co-owned by the Chieftains’ Paddy Moloney and BMG. Vihma featured, alongside Finnish producer Janne Haavisto, the co-production talents of New York musician Richard Horowitz, known for his work with singer Susan Deyhim and as a filmscore composer. Many fans and critics proclaim iki as Värttinä’s best album to date. iki was released in Europe, North America and Japan. The Helsinki release of iki coincided with their sold out 20th Anniversary concert on February 28, 2003 at Helsinki’s Aleksanterin Teatteri, the former opera house.
