Everything But The Girl. Profilo: Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt first emerged as pioneers in the lite-jazz music scene in the early 1980's. They continued to refine their jazz versus electronica sound through eight studio albums until they gained larger exposure in 1994 through a collaboration with Massive Attack on "Protection" and their hit album "Amplified Heart.

Everything But The Girl was formed in 1982 by sicians Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt after the pair met as students, aged 19, at Hull University in October 1981. Coincidentally both were already separately signed as emerging artists to London independent record label, Cherry Red – Tracey with her lo-fi minimal girl group, Marine Girls, formed while still at school; Ben as a young guitarist and singer-songwriter. It was a mixed blessing. The duo responded swiftly with the self-produced Worldwide (1991) but it met with a muted response; European audiences seemed to have turned away.
