Tel Aviv natives, Vaadat Charigim ("Exceptions Committee") are a trio consisting of Juval Haring, Yuval Guttman and Dan Fabian Bloch.
I found out of Vaadat Charigim through one of my friends. They are trio from Tel Aviv, Israel, and their name is Hebrew for exceptions committee. They released The World Is Well Lost in 2013 digitally through Bandcamp, and had a cassette released through Burger Records and an LP pressed by Warm Ratio (based in Indianapolis). All of their songs are sung entirely in Hebrew, which may turn some of you off to them. I rather like it, and I think it adds to the band’s uniqueness
It’s handy enough to think of Vadaat Charigim as the Israeli shoegaze band, but that’s also unfairly reductive. Sure, there are bendy guitars and walls of fuzz - just listen to their debut album The World Is Well Lost below - but you’ll also find the springy sound of Slumberland Records, and the vocal swoon of Morrissey mixed up with the punk-punk’ed hum of Ian Curtis. And sure, this trio is from Tel Aviv, but they’re perfectly at home on California cassette bastion Burger Records, who’ll release the record on November 12. (Warm Ratio will handle vinyl, and ANOVA CD and digital.
Israeli trio Vaadat Charigim play the type of silky shoegaze that is eternally gray. And their subject matter is equally bleak. Our music deals with dystopia, war, loss of values, and just living alone in a city, they explained in a recent interview. That city is Tel Aviv. And the title of their debut album-The World Is Well Lost-sort of says it all. Interestingly enough, the title is the only thing most Westerners will understand. Vaadat Charigim (which translates to Exceptions Committee in Hebrew) have chosen to deliver these songs in their native tongue

On the whole, the album glides by deftly, more interesting and less derivative than most 2010s shoegaze revival acts, and the underlying pop heart of some songs makes them stand out among the pleasantly dreamy others. 1 Odisea Vaadat Charigim 7:1. 2 Kezef Al Hamayim Vaadat Charigim 5:24. 3 Lehitorer Velo Lada'at Vaadat Charigim 4:58. 4 Ze Beseder Lefahed Vaadat Charigim 4:10. 5 Haolam Avad Mizman Vaadat Charigim 3:51. 6 Ein Nehama Ladoachim Vaadat Charigim 3:56.
