House Party is the fourteenth album by American jazz organist Jimmy Smith featuring performances recorded in 1957 and 1958 and released on the Blue Note label. The album was rereleased on CD with one bonus track. Studio album by. Jimmy Smith. Rudy Van Gelder used the Manhattan Towers Hotel Ballroom in New York City for recording sessions in 1957-1958, while he was still using his parents' Hackensack, . home studio to record artists for Blue Note. House Party was the first of two Smith albums recorded on two dates, the second was Smith's next album The Sermon!, released in 1959. Van Gelder mainly used the ballroom for larger groups of musicians that would not fit in his parent's living room, or when New York was a more convenient location to record the artists involved.

House Party is an album by American jazz organist Jimmy Smith featuring performances recorded in 1957 and 1958 and released on the Blue Note label.

Open House is stacked like a jukebox with marquee players on it: Ike Quebec on tenor sax, Jackie McLean on alto sax, Blue Mitchell on trumpet, Donald Bailey on the skins, and Quinten Warren plucking guitar. The sound here is loose, jammy, and fun, with signature Van Gelder recording ambience. The LP played very quietly after a couple cleanings with my Okki Nokki, and was punchy, and dynamic as all hell in it’s production. This is now not only one of my favourite Jimmy Smith LPs, it’s probably the favourite Smith album I own. Highly recommended.

The same latest Jimmy Smith record, House Party. Luckily, every one has written their name on the labe. inyl. Due to the impressive guest list, a more expensive Jimmy Smith than later releases, which are not especially collectible and can be difficult to tell one from another. An original Blue Note in Mono with interesting players, and not too long of just Jimmy stabbing away at the Hammond keyboard.
