The Yawpers American Man (Bloodshot Records). On the surface it would seem like punk and country music have nothing in common. The Yawpers effectively bridge the sonic gap between these diverse genres. While there are diverse influences that are evident on the album, perhaps the most appropriate would be The Band, who could successfully juggle multiple styles from Southern Rock to gospel to backing Bob Dylan. Each song is noticeably different than the others, from the frantic folk stomp of Burdens to the funky groove of 9 to 5. The unholy tale of Walter puts a punk rock spin on Southern revival. The Yawpers are an interesting discovery.
