American Wrestlers is the debut studio album by indie rock act American Wrestlers, initially self-released on BandCamp in 2014, and re-released on April 7, 2015 on Fat Possum Records. In 2014, following the break-up of Gary McLure's band, Working for a Nuclear Free City, and the release of his debut solo album, Wreaths (2013), McLure moved to St. Louis, Missouri to marry his then-girlfriend, Bridget Imperial.

The LP was strong enough for us to name American Wrestlers a Band To Watch and one of the Best New Bands Of 2015, and a year later, McClure followed it up with Goodbye Terrible Youth. Now McClure is back again, with another new album coming later this year

The debut album from American Wrestlers confirms that the lo-fi aesthetic is still going strong in the 21st century; Gary McClure, formerly of Working for a Nuclear Free City, built a makeshift home studio centered around a Tascam eight-track cassette deck he found at a pawnshop after relocating to St. Louis, Missouri, and the result is one of the best. Hopefully he'll be heading back to the hockshop again soon, looking for more inspiration.
