I believe it was 2007 when I heard the announcement that Sharlok Poems would be shortening his name after 8 years. Going simply by the moniker Poems, the former LA Symphony crew alumni teamed up with Braille’s Hip Hop IS Music label for the somewhat disappointing Blooming Sounds release. Shortly thereafter, the emcee changed his alias once again to Sareem Poems. For those keeping track at home I hope you haven’t gotten lost. Dirty Words is the title of the collaborative album of Dust’s production and Poems on the lyrics. Power To The People finds itself as the lead-off track to the album filled with uptempo break-beats and group chants in a cadence like echo.

Poems (aka Sharlok and/or Sareem Poems) has been releasing solo albums for a number of years now with this collaborative effort being his 4th. Even before listening to the album a truer hip hop fan would be intrigued by this particular union; having Poems, who is more apt to appear on a Hip Hop Is Music project, team up with styling of the Atlanta-based DJ Dust. Suffice it to say that this unorthodox mix of styles came together to compliment each other well in Dirty Words.
