Frank Vincent Zappa (December 21, 1940 – December 4, 1993) was an American t musician, composer, and bandleader. His work is characterized by nonconformity, free-form improvisation, sound experiments, musical virtuosity, and satire of American culture

Frank Zappa, notorious for recording everything, carried cassettes with him on the road. On one occasion backstage during the late ’70s, Frank gave longtime fan Ole Lysgaard a cassette which contained a dub of a live recording excerpt from a concert in Williamsburg, VA 11-1-75. Thanks to Ole, this excerpt has been forever immortalized as the content for Corsaga number 4. Joe’s Menage is transferred directly from the show master tape. Tracks consist of live cuts from The Palladium, NYC on Halloween 1981 along with performances taped at KCET TV studios in Los Angeles during 1974.

Frank's album Apostrophe(') is his only album to puncture Billboard's Top 10. The title track on the album is an instrumental featuring drummer Jim Gordon and Cream bassist Jack Bruce. Lowell George was one of Zappa's musicians before he formed Little Feat. Zappa produced albums for Alice Cooper, Captain Beefheart, and Grand Funk. Most of his songs were parodies, but the musicianship was so good that radio stations played them anyway. Sarah from Quincy, IlIn the late 1980s, Frank Zappa was on Larry King's radio show, and a caller said she and her husband had sent him an invitation to their wedding. They really didn't expect an RSVP, but he did sign the card and send it back. He wasn't able to attend.

He was as prolific as he was restless, jumping from genre to genre, and from target to target, with all the control and temperament that you'd expect from a difficult, boundary-busting artist. From the start of the Mothers of Invention in the mid '60s to the end of his life, Zappa's massive output can be maddening to sort through. So we did all the heavy lifting. Like 'The Grand Wazoo' (see No. 9 on our list of the Top 10 Frank Zappa Albums), 'Waka, Jawaka' plays around with various forms of fusion. But it also serves as a bridge between Zappa's avant-rock work and his later, more sophisticated jazz and classical material. A sequel of sorts to the earlier instrumental excursions found on 'Hot Rats,' 'Waka, Jawaka' is stuffed with big brass and tricky time signatures.

Track 2500: own frank's stuff. The Zappas have generously allowed us to offer a very limited number of items from Frank's private collection, including original filmstrips from the Vault and a few of his personal possessions. Cal Schenkel, Zappa's long-time creative collaborator and album artist, is creating an ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATION for this campaign because you'll get to keep THE ORIGINAL CAL SCHENKEL ARTWORK. We'll send it to you with a hand-signed letter of authenticity from me, Cal and Ahmet Zappa.

Frank Zappa, it’s immediately obvious, was not like other men. He really wasn’t. He was manically driven, extravagantly gifted, utterly unique. Frank merely taped the conversation and released it on the album Uncle Meat. So he needed a hit. And needed it very badly indeed. Frank booked Sunset Sound in Hollywood – studio home of Joni Mitchell, The Doors and The Beach Boys – to try a bold new experiment: an instrumental rock album played mostly by jazz musicians, among them Max Bennett, Jean-Luc Ponty, Don ‘Sugarcane’ Harris and the only member of the Mothers he’d retained, his supremely talented multi-instrumental sidekick Ian Underwood. The woman who runs the place is insane, he hit back. Very prude and very sick. She gave us a list of twelve words we couldn’t say on stage and one of them was brassiere!
