Pink Floyd have been known to perform and/or record a number of songs and instrumentals which have never been officially released on a single or album. Only those whose existence can be reliably confirmed are listed here. Bootleg recordings of the majority of below listed songs exist. Several previously unreleased songs appeared on The Early Years 1965–1972 box set in November 2016, which marked their first official release.

The first Pink Floyd album not to feature founder and bassist Roger Waters, A Momentary Lapse of Reason represented a definite transition to a new phase in the band’s long history. It came in the midst of a tumultuous period of lawsuits and name-calling between Waters and his former band mates, led by vocalist and guitarist David Gilmour. Waters officially left the band in December 1985 and tried to officially dissolve the Pink Floyd name with his departure, but Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason wanted to continue with new projects by the band. The album’s music originated from sessions for a new Gilmour solo album in 1985, which were recorded primarily on Gilmour’s converted houseboat, called Astoria, anchored on the River Thames. Gilmour changed his mind in 1986 and decided to use the material for a new Pink Floyd album when Mason joined the project.

Pink Floyd concerts were always a multimedia event. As early as 1966, the group's live performances incorporated film, projected onto a backdrop and onto the band. 2. Before David Gilmour joined Pink Floyd as their guitarist, Syd Barrett held that position. But there was another guitar player too: Bob Klose played on the group's first demos, before departing for a career in photography. He later worked with Gilmour on his 2006 solo album 'On an Island. 3. While their music has long been associated with mind-expanding drug use, besides Syd Barrett, the members of Pink Floyd only casually experimented with acid. In fact, they hadn't even tried whiskey until Janis Joplin passed them some during a tour in 1967.
