At the heart of their sound is a professed love for the tunes of the American West Coast of the '60s and '70s. Set to a backdrop of Al Green, Carole King, and the Band, they quickly pieced together tracks for their debut album, So Much for the City, during a four-month holiday on a beach in San Diego
This album is dedicated to the memory of Eoin McQuaid - a true friend and supporter of the band. Recorded & mixed between October 2002 & March 2003. Recorded at Sound Factory, Los Angeles; Strongroom Studios, London; Area 51, Dublin. Mixed at Sound Factory, Los Angeles; Strongroom Studios, London, except track 2 mixed at Quad Studios, NYC. And no matter that they're Irish, for these days anyone can sing about California as if they've always lived there. 1) Santa Cruz (You're Not That Far) This song is nice, slow easy going in the verses and has a lil sad kinda touch to it. Then when the chorus kicks in it goes a lil happier and that contrast makes this song so great.
Teenager is the third album from Irish band The Thrills. It was released on July 22, 2007 in Ireland and three days later in Europe. The first single from the album was "Nothing Changes Around Here". The second release taken from the album was "The Midnight Choir" which was released as a download-only single. Teenager reached No. 48 on the UK Albums Chart. The album was demoed and written in Ireland, with the band recording and mixing the album in Vancouver and California.
Five boys who grew up together in Dublin, the Thrills wouldn't be the first band on this side of the Atlantic to become obsessed with American music, specifically the golden age of late-1960s and early-1970s west-coast pop. They probably are the first, however, to actually bother to spend a summer in a rented house on the beach in San Diego for the sake of authenticity. Nailing their (sun-bleached) colours to the mast about as firmly as possible, they have written a series of perfectly crafted homages to the music of their heroes
Anyone know much about this album? Whaddya think of it? I quite like it, although it's quite in your face for what it is. Haven't heard banjos in thing. For the banjo, although it is not something you do everyday, I approached it like I'd do an acoustic guitar. A KM 86 (or a KM 84) pointed toward the 12 fret or so, and either a 57 or a lavalier mic on the body (or in this case, head) of the banjo, below and to the left of the bridge.
So much for the streetlights They're never gonna guide you home No, they're never gonna guide you home. Down at the steamboat show Yeah, all the kids start spittin' I guess it didn't live up to the billing. Your love is like a city I visited Your love is like a city that burnt me good Oh Las Vegas, I could only afford one weekend. Don't you know You're like Pete Best Bitter after all these years Just let it go. I was surfing this tidal wave, of faded glories. A San Diego pad, and five, six years walked straight by me.
