Dismember is a Swedish death metal band formed in 1988. They split up in 2011, but reunited in 2019. Pioneers of Swedish death metal, Dismember is now considered one of the country's "big four", alongside Entombed, Grave, and Unleashed. The band formed in Stockholm in 1988. After a hiatus, during which several members joined Carnage, the band began recording in earnest in 1991 and released their debut album Like an Ever Flowing Stream that year

Unleashed (along with Dismember, Entombed and Grave) is considered one of the "big four" of Swedish death metal. Biography Unleashed was founded in 1989 by vocalist and bassist Johnny Hedlund. Unleashed recorded demos "Revenge" and "Utter Dark", which got them a record deal with the German label Century Media Records. In 1991, the band released their debut studio album, Where No Life Dwells, and toured with Morbid Angel in Europe and the United States. After a reissue of the band's classics in 2002, the band released a new album called Hell's Unleashed in the same year, and they began to tour once again. This was also the same year Hedlund had come under scrutiny because of allegations that he was a Nazi sympathizer.

Dismember's demo-discography comes hot on the heels of that of Nihilist (Entombed). Dismember have always sailed in the slipstream of Entombed, but they are still Death Metal legends in their own right. These demos predate the classic 'Like An Everflowing Stream' debut that continues to overshadow them. Many of these songs were also recorded for that album and for 'Dark Recollections' (the Carnage LP). These rougher versions capture their rabid, venomous, punkish Death Metal to an even greater extent.
