Mike Oldfield - Platinum flac album

Platinum is the fifth record album by Mike Oldfield, released in 1979 on Virgin Records. It was Oldfield's first album to include shorter songs and music written by others. A modified version of the album was released in the United States and Canada and titled Airborn. The In Concert 1980 tour, which ran from April to December of that year, was in promotion of the album. In Germany the album peaked at number 11. The album has since been reissued with bonus material.

The Platinum Collection (Mike Oldfield album). The Platinum Collection is a 2006 Virgin Records compilation album written and mostly performed by Mike Oldfield. The first two discs are entirely made up of content from Oldfield's Virgin albums, whereas some pieces on disc three are under licence from Warner.

The first Mike Oldfield album to break from the tradition of a single long composition spread over multiple record sides into 1 long composition over 1 side (Platinum Parts 1-4) and several shorter pop-style songs on the other. Part 4 of Platinum (subtitled North Star) featured an excerpt from the Phillip Glass album (also called North Star) but converted into progressive rock through the addition of bass, drums and guitars.

The twin enemies of prog rock, punk and disco, had arisen between 'Ommadawn' ( on the British charts) and 'Incantations' (.Like many late '70s progressive acts, OLDFIELD'S position in the industry was threatened by these musical trends, so much so that Virgin, his record company, favoured their new punk signings over him and other established acts.

Still not satisfied, Virgin updated the compilation again in 2006, bringing out a three-CD set called The Platinum Collection with 46 tracks spread across his career from the opening excerpt of "Tubular Bells" to "The Millennium Bell" and "To Be Free" from the 21st century. It is doubtful that Virgin was totally happy with this release.
