Spanning 1953-1957, this collection takes us back to the Miles Davis-influenced trumpeter's youth and his years with Pacific Jazz-a label for which he often excelled. On "Come Rain or Come Shine," "That Old Feeling" and "There's A Lull In My Life," we're reminded that while Baker the vocalist may not have had the world's greatest range, he was hardly lacking when it came to naked vulnerability.

Chet is an album by jazz trumpeter Chet Baker first released in 1959. The record is sometimes subtitled The Lyrical Trumpet of Chet Baker. Chet features performances by Baker with flautist Herbie Mann, saxophonist Pepper Adams, pianist Bill Evans, guitarist Kenny Burrell, bassist Paul Chambers, and either Connie Kay or Philly Joe Jones on drums. It was recorded in December 1958 and January 1959 and released on the Riverside label.

Chet Baker knew how to sing and play the trumpet in such a way that it really tugged at your heartstrings; and this song set proves it. The artwork is very good even if it is rather standard for this CD series; and the quality of the sound is excellent. Chet uses the trumpet in particular to give "Tenderly" a masterful treatment and this is another highlight of this album. Listen also for "Everything Depends On You;" Chet sings this with his incredible voice. Chet was really able to convey so much emotion whenever he sang a tune! "Autumn In New York" boasts a lush arrangement and has that smooth jazz flavor once again; "Autumn In New York" is a most romantic number as Chet and his crew perform this to perfection-and beyond!
