Steel (John Henry Irons) also known as the Man of Steel is a fictional comic book superhero in DC Comics. Introduced in 1993 as one of several replacement characters for the then-deceased Superman, Steel continued to be an independent superhero after Superman's resurrection. He received his own ongoing series, which saw him move from Metropolis to Washington, . and join the Justice League of America in Grant Morrison's JLA. He later mentored his niece Natasha Irons, who became a superheroine herself.

In his short liner notes to this album, Philippe Petit writes: "I dreamt that Shinya Tsukamoto was working on a blurred remake of Eraserhead, and I was to soundtrack the grotesque mutation of Henry into an 'Iron Man'. That is the starting point of this album, a dreamy, gloomy, tortured imaginary soundtrack made from (mis)treated turntables and samples. On his records, Petit is usually surrounded by collaborators (hence the mention "and friends" tagged to his name on most of his solo albums), but not this time.
