Tubular Bells III is the 18th album by Mike Oldfield, released in 1998 by Warner Music UK. A sequel to Oldfield's 1973 Tubular Bells and his 1992 Tubular Bells II albums, it was released on the 25th anniversary of the first Tubular Bells album. Oldfield created the album while living in Ibiza, and has said the inspiration for some of its electronic elements came from the styles of music played at the island's bars and clubs.
Mike Oldfield's 1973 debut album, Tubular Bells, the first released on Virgin Records, remains one of the most iconic in rock’s canon. Played largely just by himself, it contained two 20-minute-plus pieces of music, and was influenced more by Sibelius and John Cage than Black Sabbath and John Cale (whose actual tubular bells he had borrowed for the recording). Tubular Bells – as the album, of course, became – was one of four releases that came out on May 25, 1973, all testament to the label’s adventurous A&R policy.
Oldfield released the album Tubular Bells II in 1992 and Tubular Bells III in 1998. In 2003, to commemorate 30 years since its release, Oldfield released a new version of the Tubular Bells album that he worked on for nine months, recording with modern equipment. Mike Oldfield wrote much of Tubular Bells on an old piano. He recalled to Uncut: "When I lived in Harold Wood, Redden Court Road, my grandma came to live with us. She was a pub pianist in the days when pubs were nice places, and people would go along for singalongs and could smoke. She brought her old piano to ours. It had a lovely vibe to it. Most of Tubular Bells was written on that piano.

Tubular Bells is a record album, written and mostly performed by Mike Oldfield, released in 1973. The late Vivian Stanshall provided the voice of the "Master of Ceremonies" who reads off the list of instruments at the end of the first movement. The piece was later orchestrated by David Bedford for The Orchestral Tubular Bells version and it had two sequels in the 1990s, Tubular Bells II and Tubular Bells III. Significance. Oldfield approached (and was rejected by) many other established record labels.
