Downtown LA Rehearsal/Rifftape March 1998 is a rehearsal tape by Sunn O))). Recorded in March 1998 and released in 2018 for the band and Southern Lord Records ' 20th Anniversary, it chronicles the very first recordings of the band. Sunn O))) had formed in March 1998 with a means to compose low-end drone in the vein of Earth. The band had recorded a rehearsal that same month on a boombox at Downtown Rehearsal Room 206 in Los Angeles.

SUNN O))) practice tape recorded March 1998 at Downtown Rehearsals (RIP) room 206, Los Angeles. Mastered in February 2018.

Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley remain exceptional artists in their field, but Downtown LA Rehearsal/Rifftape March 1998 feels unnecessary. But Downtown positions itself as white noise at this point. Simply put: it’s been done (Rehearsal Demo Nov 11 2011, LA Reh 012) and although a desirable collectable, it doesn’t go too far beyond that. Downtown is exactly what you’d expect. It’s an ultra DIY set-up that shows Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley at their most raw.

The LP sees SUNN O))) founders Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley on guitars and stacks of amps, the original cassette was mastered by Brad Boatright February 2018.

So I ended up with an extra copy of this. If anyone wants to trade it for one of the O))) LPs I'm missing that'd be great. Ones I'm looking for are:Veils it WhiteCroMonolithic Remixes for an Iron AgeLet me know!
Raelin
Anyone know if this comes with a download card? Pretty sure the post office lost mine at this point.
Anarius
That's a shame. Thanks for the reply, though. It's been over three weeks and I still haven't gotten mine in.
Tegore
Just got my copy. No download card is included unfortunately.
Dammy
My black vinyl copy is numbered 01111. Did the numbering begin with the white and silver copies? Thus, the first black copy would be number 601?
Balhala
My copy is #00605, so it looks like that's the case
crazy mashine
If that's the case, I must have an early black copy as well, since mine (spinning right now as I type this) #00797. I'm guessing that they printed X amount of machine-numbered covers and stashed the silver subscription copies in the first 500 sleeves. That's presuming that they didn't open boxes of printed covers randomly when they started sleeving pieces of vinyl.
