There are a few mysteries associated with this album - how can a debut album be so good, why didn't it garner more commercial success, and when is the follow up going to be released (it's been 4 f king years already)? Elephantsound is essentially a breakbeat/dub album of high quality. What sets it apart from the rest of the breakbeat morass is the mix of 60's psychedelic influences (Moog keyboards feature on a number of tracks) and the use of Indian musical instruments, samples, perticularly percussion.

Another highlight is the 9-minute long "66 Meters" with the beautiful voice of Shahin Badar who was already featured in the monstrous "Smack By B Up" from who you know. Whilst this may sound bizzarre, the end product is a bouncy, fun album which can easily withstand repeated listening thanks to the depth and quality of the music. The combination of sitars and big beats in "Indian Ropeman" and "Stand Clear" will never cease to amaze me.This sole release from Indian Ropeman is from Skint Records, therefore this is a guarantee of quality. Another highlight is the 9-minute long "66 Meters" with the beautiful voice of Shahin Badar who was already featured in the monstrous "Smack By B**** Up" from who you know.At last, both "Mission To The Moog" end this CD in the same vein as the beginning.14 years after the last comment here, I concur that "Elephantsound" fits perfectly with another CDs like "An Instinct For Detection" AND "City Delirious", as well as "Better Living Through Chemistry", "Tweekend" and "Risotto" (the complete list will be too long). Enjoy !

Whilst this may sound bizzarre, the end product is a bouncy, fun album which can easily withstand repeated listening thanks to the depth and quality of the music.
