The Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (DSO) is a German broadcast orchestra based in Berlin. The orchestra performs its concerts principally in the Philharmonie Berlin. The orchestra is administratively based at the Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) Fernsehzentrum in Berlin. The orchestra was founded in 1946 by American occupation forces as the RIAS Symphonie-Orchester (RIAS Rundfunk im amerikanischen Sektor, "Radio In the American Sector").

Joseph Haydn - The Creation. Oratorio in three parts Hob. XXI:2. Joseph Haydn (1732–1809) The Creation. Due to illness, Genia Kühmeier has unfortunately had to cancel her appearance in the concert with the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle on Wednesday, 30 August 2017. We are pleased that Elsa Dreisig will take on the soprano part in Joseph Haydn's The Creation. The program remains unchanged. It will be the last time that Sir Simon Rattle comes to Lucerne as the music director of the Berlin Philharmonic. In 1882 a group of 54 ambitious musicians in Berlin formed an orchestra to perform concerts under their own aegis, thus giving birth to the Berlin Philharmonic. As their leader they chose Hans von Bülow, one of the finest conductors of the era, who laid the foundations for the Philharmonic’s culture of distinguished playing.

Part I - "Now vanish before the holy beams".

Joseph Haydn: The Creation. Haydn’s massive late oratorio The Creation is considered by more than a few to be his great masterpiece, despite the limitations of a rather dubious series of words; the retranslated texts are often either bizarre or forced or both. Haydn was inspired to create The Creation following his trips to the UK, where he heard the oratorios of Handel still being performed with massive forces. He is quoted as saying that, once in the flow, he begged God to let him be able to finish the work – clearly knowing he was onto a corker
