Franz Joseph Haydn (/ˈhaɪdən/; German: (listen); 31 March 1732 – 31 May 1809) was an Austrian composer of the Classical period. He was instrumental in the development of chamber music such as the piano trio. His contributions to musical form have earned him the epithets "Father of the Symphony" and "Father of the String Quartet". Haydn spent much of his career as a court musician for the wealthy Esterházy family at their remote estate.

Franz Joseph Haydn was born on the 31 March 1732. Some have said that it is not known if he was born just before midnight or just after. It would appear that Haydn began work on his magnificent oratorio The Creation in 1786. Closely associated with the composition of this oratorio and The Seasons was Baron Gottfried Bernhard van Swieten (17331803). He was born in the Netherlands, the son of a distinguished doctor, and on his death, he became the personal physician to Empress Maria Theresa in Vienna where he remained until his death. Dr Charles Burney () was an English organist who travelled extensively throughout Europe and was aware of Haydn's fame. In fact, Haydn spent time with Burney when he was in London.

Joseph Haydn: Joseph Haydn, Austrian composer who was one of the most important figures in the development of the Classical style in music during the 18th century. Haydn was an extremely prolific composer, and some of his most well-known works include the London Symphonies, The Creation, Trumpet Concerto, and Cello Concerto No. 2 in D Major. His compositions are often characterized as light, witty, and elegant. What was Joseph Haydn’s family like?

Franz Joseph Haydn was among the creators of the fundamental genres of classical music, and his influence upon later composers is immense. Haydn’s most celebrated pupil was Ludwig van Beethoven, and his musical form casts a huge shadow over the music of subsequent composers such as Schubert, Mendelssohn and Brahms. Franz Joseph Haydn was recruited at age 8 to the sing in the choir at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, where he went on to learn to play violin and keyboard. After he left the choir, he supported himself by teaching and playing violin, while studying counterpoint.
