Hymn to St Cecilia, Op. 27 is a choral piece by Benjamin Britten (1913–1976), a setting of a poem by W. H. Auden written between 1940 and 1942. Auden's original title was "Three Songs for St. Cecilia's Day", and he later published the poem as "Anthem for St. Cecilia’s Day (for Benjamin Britten)". For a long time Britten wanted to write a piece dedicated to St Cecilia for a number of reasons.

This album was released in 1972 year. And you can download the album in one file to your computer or tablet or phone.

A Ceremony of Carols, Op. 28, is a choral piece by Benjamin Britten, scored for three-part treble chorus, solo voices, and harp. The text is principally in Middle English, with some Latin and Early Modern English. The piece was written in 1942 while Britten was at sea, travelling from the United States to England.

The King's College Choir of Cambridge does an excellent job in bringing forth every layer of beauty that the music has to offer. While the Christmas carols "Ceremony of Carols" are, of course, the highlight, do not discard the rest. The "Missa Brevis" is especially lovely and moving. Hymn to St. Cecilia" very well might have been composed by Britten because he was born on St. Cecilia's day, so he wanted to write something for himself. Written in 1942, it is a setting of a . Auden poem, the music reflecting the restrained intensity of the words. In particular the 'Ceremony of Carols' for treble voices and harp recorded in King's College allows the procession and recession to 'feel' like an entry and exit - very atmospheric. The harpist for this recording is the famous Welsh harpist Osian Ellis and gives his role a more important sound than other harpists on other recordings.
