Seeing jazz in New York doesn't have to be expensive. For the price of one set of music and a couple of martinis at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, which is perched atop a high-end shopping mall in the Time Warner Center, you could spend two long nights drinking beer in the charmingly shabby jazz cellars of Greenwich Village, or a full week sipping bottled water at The Stone. Students should always ask if discount admissions are offered. Geographically, there are two main areas for jazz, Greenwich Village and Midtown, both easy to get to by subway. The Mingus Big Band rocks the house with Charles Mingus's uproarious, soulful, swinging compositions. Iridium is near Times Square, a short walk from many midtown hotels, and books some of the best musicians in the world.

Music was by no means jazz or blues, so that was a little discouraging, since based on the name, this is what would be expected. All in all, a nice dinner. Date of experience: May 2019. Went to House of Blues to see what had been touted as "One of the BEST burlesque show in the country". Best of what New Orleans has to offer, and a not to be missed venue Date of experience: March 2019.

Jazz wasn’t just born in New Orleans – it grew up here. Like New Orleans itself, jazz is constantly changing, forever evolving into something new and exciting. Frenchmen -crowded, buzzing and vibrant - might just be the most consistently musical stretch of asphalt in New Orleans. Cajuns don’t just cook; they know how to dance, too! Find a club, restaurant or bar to learn Cajun dancing in New Orleans. Music plays a leading role in New Orleans, the city that brought jazz to the world.

Freddie, he had left New Orleans with his band and he was traveling all over the country playing towns on the Orpheum Circuit. At the time, you know, that was something new and Freddie kept sending back all these clippings from what all the newspapermen and the critics and all was writing up about him, about his music, about his band. And all these clippings were asking the same thing: where did it come from? It seems like everyone along the circuit was coming up to Freddie to ask about this ragtime. This history was prepared by a National Park Service study team to be included in the Special Resource Study and Environmental Assessment of Suitable/Feasible Alternatives for the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park in 1993.
