Frans Bruggen and the Orchestra of the 18th Century are glorious advocates of this music, and the resulting recording here is a must for all fans.

Beethoven Symphonies No. .has been added to your Cart. RCA released three recordings of the Eroica by Toscanini. The first was this one, on 78 rpm Victor album M-765 (in Europe on His Master's Voice DB 5946/52) and it is the recording of a broadcast performance given in the infamous NBC 8-H studio on October 28, 1939 - the full concert, which also featured the Fidelio Overture and the First Symphony, was issued by Naxos in their Toscanini. Obviously Beethoven had another conception of 18th century tongue-in-cheek wit and playfulness than either Frank or Toscanini: his tempo truly races. I'd love to hear it done that way, not robust and earthy as everyone plays it, but light-footed and racing.
