Three years later their last joint effort Guilty sees the light of day, an LP joining the dots between white funk, Zairean rumba and robotic beats. When Crammed’s Marc Hollander picks the title track for single release, the magic happens on the B-side. Zazou Bikaye: Mr. Manager Zairean Bony Bikaye's Felaesque chants (sans agitprop, avec Afrobeat girls) provide the identity, but the substructure is all French-Algerian Hector Zazou, whose synth arrangements are praised for their orchestral density and distinguished by their propulsive linearity. Most of the Afrogallic music I've heard makes too much (Toure Kunda) or too little (Manu Dibango) of its Africanness. This strikes me as an original balance: minimalist Eurodisco that trades for pseudoprimitivism.

Talk about Zazou Bikaye - Mr. Manager

Blackstalker
Underrated Zazou Bikaye LP - esp. compared to their 'Noir et Blanc' LP which now sells for up to $100. You can buy this one for c. $5, worth it alone for the 12 min.+ 'Angel', or track down the USA pressing which includes a bonus remix of M'Pasi Ya M'Pamba (the orig. was on 'Noir et Blanc'.)
MEGA FREEDY
Early techno/Afropop fusion from Algerian-born composer Hector Zazou (collaborator with Ryuchi Sakamoto, Harold Budd, Les Nouvelles Polyphonies Corses, many more) and Congolese singer Bony Bikaye. Bikaye and accompanists mix Lingala, French and English vocals, and Zazou provides light touch with synthesizer with original provocative sounds and tight arrangements, ranging from dreamy, melancholy ambiance of "Soki Akei" to the funky dance epic "Angel", and downtempo experimental techno remix of "M'Pasi Ya M'Pamba". A real gem, one of the best works of its kind.
