McLean's Scene is a studio album by saxophonist Jackie McLean. It was recorded in 1956 and 1957, but not released until 1959 on Prestige sub-label New Jazz Records, as NJ 8212. It was also reissued on CD in 1991. Gone with the Wind" (Allie Wrubel, Herb Magidson) - 7:31. Our Love Is Here to Stay" (George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin) - 4:21. Mean to Me" (Fred E. Ahlert, Roy Turk) - 8:50. McLean's Scene" (McLean) - 10:21. Old Folks" (Dedette Lee Hill, Willard Robison) - 4:56. Outburst" (McLean) - 4:34.

John Lenwood "Jackie" McLean (May 17, 1931 – March 31, 2006) was an American jazz alto saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and educator, and is one of the few musicians to be elected to the DownBeat Hall of Fame in the year of their death. McLean was born in New York City. His father, John S. played guitar in Tiny Bradshaw's orchestra. After his father's death in 1939, Jackie's musical education was continued by his godfather, his record-store-owning stepfather, and several noted teachers.

Altoist Jackie McLean tended to downgrade his Prestige recordings due to the low pay, the little prior preparation, and the jam session feel of the music. Although all of the above is true, the music (while not on a par with his Blue Note recordings of the '60s) is still pretty worthy, particularly when compared to the output of his contemporaries. McLean never really copied Charlie Parker and was one of the first in his generation to develop his own sound.

McLean's Scene Jackie McLean. Along with Rollins, he played on Miles Davis' Dig album, when he was 20 years old. As a young man McLean also recorded with Gene Ammons, Charles Mingus on the seminal Pithecanthropus Erectus, George Wallington, and as a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. McLean joined Blakey after reportedly being punched by Mingus.

Veteran altoist Jackie McLean was not familiar with pianist Junko Onishi's playing until shortly before recording this quartet CD (which also includes bassist Nat Reeves and drummer Lewis Nash), but he was apparently pleased with how she sounded. McLean's album is included in the uDiscover guide to the 50 greatest Blue Note Records albums. com. -not. Jackie McLean's Jacknife sessions have had a peculiar and somewhat disjointed history in his discography.
