The Fall are a very intimidating band to approach for the first time due to their vast discography. I had heard of their legendary status as a band fronted by the erratic leader Mark E. Smith and his every changing sound and bandmates. But I had never actually listened to the music before seeing that Superior Viaduct was reissuing their early releases. The label hadn't disappointed me in the past, so I decided to give it a whirl. The listen is rather relentless. As others have said, they packed a lot of music on each side of this record.

Some track titles printed on the CD differ slightly from those shown on the album artwork. Manufactured in Western Germany (inlay). Rights Society: GEMA.

The Fall already had a slew of brilliant records under their belt by the time Hex Enduction Hour emerged, but when it did, the result was a bona fide classic on all fronts. Honing the vicious edge of his lyrics to a new level of ability, Smith led his by-now seasoned band - at this time sporting the double-drumming lineup of Paul Hanley and Karl Burns - to create a literal hour's worth of entertaining bile

Hex Enduction Hour is a 1982 album by The Fall. The music remained raw and noisy, but with a more pronounced melodic sense. The album was partly recorded in Iceland during the group's 1981 visit, with the remainder being completed in a disused cinema in Hitchin, England. Mark E. Smith told journalist Sandy Robertson that he had envisaged Hex as being the group's final album and that he would not have continued in music had this been the case.

Hex Enduction Hour is regarded by most Fall fans as their bone fide classic, encapsulating everything for which The Fall are so loved and revered. Originally released in March 1982, He. .Others have that creepy ooze of many "softer" Fall songs. For new converts, I can't think of a better introduction to the Fall. It's an early enough album that they weren't an institution yet, it does show a leap forward in terms of development, it covers all the bases that they have visited time and again over the years, and per the liner notes, it f cking rocks! No band has ever done so much with so little.
