Stop Stop Stop" was the first Hollies group composition to become a big American hit, reaching the Top Ten in late 1966. Though the instantly catchy melody and brash adenoidal harmonies that were trademarks of the Hollies were out in force, in other respects it was a most offbeat song, not just by the Hollies' standards, but for 1966 rock singles as a whole.
