The Montreux Jazz Festival (formerly Festival de Jazz Montreux and Festival International de Jazz Montreux) is a music festival in Switzerland, held annually in early July in Montreux on the Lake Geneva shoreline. It is the second largest annual jazz festival in the world after Canada's Montreal International Jazz Festival. The Montreux Jazz Festival was founded in 1967 by Claude Nobs, Géo Voumard and René Langel with considerable help from Ahmet and Nesuhi Ertegün of Atlantic Records.

Recorded June 15, 1968, at the Casino de Montreux, by the technical department of Radio Suisse Romande. A Verve Label Group release; originally released in 1968.

Bill Evans Format: Vinyl. The CD product page is missing them, but you can listen to snippets on the MP3 album's product page at Bill Evans - At The Montreux Jazz Festival. In this case, though, the sound samples do not begin to convey the music. Partly because Evans give both Gomez and DeJohnette a lot of leeway and they take it. Of course, Evans characteristically gave his rhythm sections a lot of space and especially on this album you can hear some amazing solo work. I especially like DeJohnette's work, both in a supporting role as well as in a solo context

June 15, 1968, Montreux Jazz Festival, Casino De Montreux, Switzerland. Only one year earlier, his At Town Hall release found his approach generally more introspective and brooding. He experiments more with harmonic dissonance and striking rhythmical contrasts, making this his most extroverted playing since his freshman release, New Jazz Conceptions.
