Lady T is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Teena Marie, released by Motown's Gordy label on February 14, 1980. The album was produced by Richard Rudolph, and the track "Too Many Colors" features the then 7 year-old Maya Rudolph, daughter of Rudolph and his late wife Minnie Riperton. The album was dedicated to Minnie Riperton. Lady T was the nickname of Teena Marie at Motown Records

Lady T smoothly picks up where Teena’s Rick James-produced debut left off. It’s also something like an organic extension of Riperton’s final proper album, Minnie, also released in 1979; Rudolph co-write one-third of the songs and brought in some of Riperton’s studio associates, including Jerry Hey's Seawind Horns

The packaging of Teena Marie's debut album Wild and Peaceful had not included a picture of the singer, and the image on the sleeve of this album surprised many people who had assumed she was African-American. Lady T peaked at on the Black Albums chart and on the Pop Albums chart. Lead single "Behind the Groove" peaked at on the US Black Singles chart and became Teena Marie's only top 20 hit in the United Kingdom, reaching in that country. Behind the Groove" (Marie, Richard Rudolph) 6:06. Now That I Have You" (Art Philips,.

This album, along with her third album, showcase Teena Marie at her vocal height. The album starts off with the rip roaring funk of "Behind The Groove". It follows with the beautiful supple ballad "Now That I Have You". The gospel tinged "Alladin's Lamp", the power ballad "Can It Be Love" and the mid-tempo number "Why Did I Have To Fall In You" round out the mid-section of the album. Lady T concludes with I think one of the best vocal's of her career, "Too Many Colors"
