Talk about Julie Brown - Goddess In Progress

Gldasiy
I ran across the original Goddess in Progress EP at a record store a while back and had heard Trapped in the Body of a White Girl, so I picked it up and enjoyed it, then checked out the Trapped album and loved it. So I bought the CD expecting it to have better audio quality than the vinyl, and to like the unreleased songs.Unfortunately, there's a reason they weren't released - Back in the Back Seat was the only one I actually enjoyed. They're even more in the '50s/'60s retro mold than Homecoming Queen or Shut Up and Kiss Me, and I like power-pop Julie (Trapped, Girl Fight Tonight) and silly synthpop Julie ('Cause I'm a Blonde, Big and Stupid) much better than retro Julie. With regard to audio quality, the first four tracks are a definite improvement over the vinyl, but Earth Girls Are Easy is actually worse. Some of the unreleased songs sound fine, but others clearly come off cassette, with that kind of deadened, dampened sound. So basically whether or not the CD is worth it for you comes down to how much you like Will I Make It Through the Eighties? and the original version of I Like 'Em Big and Stupid and how badly you want them in CD quality. (Blonde and Homecoming Queen were both released elsewhere on CD, on the Earth Girls Are Easy soundtrack and Trapped album, respectively.) Incidentally, it is still available from Julie's website, so there's no need to pay top dollar to scalpers...
