Snowboy and the Latin Section: New York Afternoon. Afro Cuban Jazz by Jim Santella.

Metro's 2004 collection Latin Fever! The Best of Snowboy's Acid Jazz Years serves up exactly what the title says: a collection of 14 highlights from the mid-'90s, when the percussionist was cutting groovy amalgams of Latin and acid jazz. Some of this stuff might get a little silly - there's a cover of "Meet the Flintstones," after all - but for the most part this is a lively, engaging, fun and adventurous set of Latin-tinged acid jazz, and a good introduction to this formative phase of Snowboy's career.

The Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album is an award presented at the Grammy Awards, a ceremony that was established in 1958 and originally called the Gramophone Awards, to recording artists for quality works (songs or albums) in the Latin jazz music genre.

SNOWBOY is a acid jazz afro-cuban jazz music artist. Snowboy is a British-based Latin artist who blends dance-club rhythms with acid jazz, hip-hop and pop. Beginning with 1988's Ritmo Snowbo, he released a series of independent records on Acid Jazz - one of which, the 1994 album Something's Coming, reached the Top Ten on the . independent charts - before signing to Hollywood Records in 1995.

He has always performed under the name Snowboy, using this name on records since his debut, Bring On The Beat, a Washington Go-Go-style funk release on his local Arc label in 1985. Throughout the 1990s, as well as sideman duties, his main musical thrust was the Latin band Snowboy & the The Latin Section, who released four albums on Acid Jazz. In addition to the Latin material, he’s made a series of incredible soul and funk records issued on critically acclaimed singles, and culminating in the release of his 1996 album The Many Faces Of Snowboy. As the singles were recorded over a series of years, and for three different labels, this is the first time that they have ever been gathered together on one CD. As someone who not only worked on some of these records when they were first issued, but loved them musically, it is an honour to pull them all together.
