Gap Band IV is the sixth album (contrary to the title) by The Gap Band, released in 1982 on Total Experience Records. The album reached on the Black Albums chart and on the Pop Albums chart, achieved platinum status, and is considered their most successful project.
The Gap Band was an American R&B and funk band that rose to fame during the 1970s and 1980s. The band consisted of three brothers Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert Wilson; and it was named after streets (Greenwood, Archer, and Pine) in the historic Greenwood neighborhood in the brothers' hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The group shortened its name to The Gap Band in 1973. After 43 years together, they retired in 2010.
Gap Band IV featured a complete lineup of up-tempo, mid-tempo, and alluring ballads. The first two are energized numbers seasoned around horrific basslines and Charlie Wilson's dazzling vocals. Mellow numbers always seem to retain that timeless appeal whereas up-tempo numbers fade with time. This album is different; the up-tempo numbers remain inviting as well. This is a great album.

The Gap Band IV. "Please retry". This is the album that brought it all together for the Brothers Wilson, and made the Gap Band a force to reckon with in both the R&B and pop worlds. The album contains two killer funk jams, both reaching the top of the R&B charts-"Early in the Morning" and "You Dropped a Bomb on M. But both songs also crossed over to become Top 40 pop hits, making the Gap Band a huge concert attraction. The other standout is the ballad "Outstanding," another NO. 1 in R&B
