Twelve is the tenth studio album by Patti Smith, released April 17, 2007 on Columbia Records. The album contains twelve tracks, all of which are cover versions. It debuted on Billboard 200 at number 60, with 11,000 copies sold in its first week. A promotional EP entitled Two More was also released, featuring two tracks that are not on the album: "Perfect Day" by Lou Reed and "Here I Dreamt I Was an Architect" by The Decemberists.

Using money donated by Robert Mapplethorpe, Smith, Kaye, and Sohl taped two tracks at Electric Lady Studios, "Hey Joe (Version)" and "Piss Factory.

Piss Factory" is a protopunk song written by Patti Smith and Richard Sohl, and released as a B-side on Smith's debut single "Hey Joe" in 1974. It was included on the Vertigo Records compilation album New Wave in 1977, Sire Records 1992 compilation album Just Say Yesterday, and later reissued on the rarities compilation Land (1975–2002)
