Movt de Valse bien rythmée. Academy of St. Chamber Ensemble. 5. Sextet for 2 violins, 2 violas & 2 cellos (from the opera "Capriccio"), Op. 85 (TrV 279a). Pieces (2) for double string quartet, Op. 11. 6. 1. Prelude - Adagio.

These Two Pieces for String Octet, written when he was still a student, show an abundance of technical skill, but, there is certainly no trace of bourgeois content. The opening elegy strikes the sombre note that Shostakovich was to sound more deeply in his late symphonies. The Enescu Octet is one of the greatest, most challenging works in the chamber music repertoire written by a teenage East European genius. The Strauss Sextet is unique in its heartfelt sensitivity and Viennese grandeur, and the Shostakovich 2 Pieces for Octet call for an understanding of large Russian spaces and barbaric violence. The Academy of St. Martin's is a world-renowned professional ensemble, which obviously worked hard to master the considerable difficulties of intonation and ensemble.

Chamber: Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble. Octet in C major Op. 7. 38:49. Two pieces for String Octet O. Zwei Stücke für Streichoktett; Deux Morceaux pour Octuor à cordes.

The Academy of St Martin in the Fields (ASMF) is an English chamber orchestra, based in London. John Churchill, then Master of Music at the London church of St, and Neville Marriner (later Sir Neville) founded the orchestra as "The Academy of St. ", a small, conductorless string group. The ASMF gave its first concert on 13 November 1959, in the church after which it was named. In 1988, the orchestra dropped the hyphens from its full name.

Only in the final pages does bold expression take center stage, allowing the sextet to conclude with flash and fervor. Last performed on our series: April 13, 1961 (New York String Sextet) Shostakovich: Two Pieces for String Octet, Op. 11 To begin, it is worth pointing out that a string octet is not simply a string quartet with two persons playing each of the four parts. Rather, it’s a work in which the composer has troubled himself or herself to craft eight different parts for these instruments, making sure that all eight fit together suitably within the rules of harmony and structure.

Drawn from the principal players of the world-renowned chamber orchestra Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, this luminous, often breathtaking (Washington Post) ensemble was created in 1967 to perform larger-scale works from the chamber music repertoire, such as wind trios and string octets. Directed by academy director/leader Tomo Keller, the ensemble has released over 30 recordings-more than any other chamber ensemble-of classical, romantic, and modern music from the last century.
