Zsolt Hamar (born 1968 Budapest) is a Hungarian conductor. Hamar started to play the piano at the age of six and later studied composition at the Béla Bartók Conservatoire. He followed university studies at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest, where he had courses in composition with Emil Petrovics and in conducting with Ervin Lukacs and Tamas Gal; he graduated in 1995.

The National Philharmonic Orchestra was a British orchestra created exclusively for recording purposes. It was founded by RCA Records producer and conductor Charles Gerhardt and orchestra leader and contractor Sidney Sax. The orchestra was created partly due to the requirements of an extensive recording project for the Reader's Digest

The Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra was founded by Dezső Bor who was its chief conductor for fifteen years. After the war, Ferenc Fricsay and László Somogyi were appointed as principal conductors. During this era, Otto Klemperer also conducted forty concerts, while another regular guest was Antál Doráti. These years saw a host of foreign guests working with the orchestra. 1952 proved to be a turning point in the orchestra’s history when János Ferencsik was appointed principal conductor: it proved to be a match made in heaven.
