Mark McGuire (born December 31, 1986) is an American musician. A former member of Emeralds, McGuire a t who has been producing solo material since 2007. In 2010 he released his first regular solo album Living With Yourself that included various pieces and arrangements recorded over a three year period. The album was "inspired by my family, the friends I've known the best throughout my life, and everything that has led me to where I am right now" In 2011 McGuire decided to leave his native city and moved to Portland (OR)
Mark McGuire has announced that he will finally be moving past his impressive (and sometimes controversial) legacy as one of baseball’s most productive batters and will be focusing on his second passion: music. Recorded in 2009, Living With Yourself features both electric and acoustic guitar-playing and is sure to show a side of the slugger that many fans never knew.
Mark McGuire operates chiefly as guitarist in the legendary Emeralds; however, he also has racked up an impressive set of solo releases over the last few years (albeit mainly in small- to micro- print runs). Focusing on his family, early friendships and the problems that inevitably develop through years of knowing someone, it takes McGuire's sound even further out, and contains some of his most accomplished songs to-date.
Got it. + add. album.
The album flutters away into loopy, electronic soundscapes featuring plenty of effects laden guitar loops and warm, non-oppressive digital beats. With song titles like "Wonderland of Living Things" and "For the Friendships" one cannot help but feel like McGuire is soundtracking the new Care Bears reboot, which once again summons the pesky specter of '80s nostalgia.
Stop believing in yourself. Each point is profoundly true, useful, and more powerful than the usual positivity. Succinct but surprisingly deep, I read it in one night.
