Sagittarian Domain by Oren Ambarchi, released 28 August 2012 1. Sagittarian Domain EMEGO 144 For anyone who still associates Oren Ambarchi exclusively with the clipped, bass-heavy tones of solo electric guitar works such as Suspension, this rhythmically churning one-man-band monster of an album-length piece might seem to come out of nowhere

Oren Ambarchi had one day in the studio to complete Sagittarian Domain. The album, which consists of one 33-minute track featuring the Australian musician and a three-piece string section, is a gigantic standoff between restriction and freedom. The best music doesn't always happen by design. There are innumerable stories of musicians stumbling across moments of inspiration while fooling around in the studio, although usually these are happy accidents that merely serve to flesh out a much bigger picture

an excellent thing this. large and monolithic. everything Mr Topp says in his piece [below] from way back in oct 2012. Suffice to say if you happen to think the Faust/Tony Conrad Caroline Records collab OUTSDIE THE DREAM SYNDICATE is a major thing of beauty and genius and want more in the same vein. Well then brothers and sisters this is where you need to come to. highest recommendation, etc and so on.

The price for this year's most relentless sonic onslaught goes without a doubt to Oren Ambarchi's "Sagittarian Domain". Build around a hypnotic and impossibly muscular drum-rhythm, the sheer force of this hellish juggernaut is awe-inspiring. Anyone brave enough to utter helpless criticism like "Isn't this a bit...monotonous?" will be rightfully silenced by the unstoppable momentum of this beast. It's brilliant. And then, when the remaining few gather for the last stand, this monstrosity will accompany the inexorable march to mankind's final judgement.
