Chuck is the eponymous (posthumous) twentieth and final studio album by American rock and roll singer and guitarist Chuck Berry, released in June 2017. Berry died between the announcement of its recording on his 90th birthday in October 2016 and its release. It (posthumously) became his first UK Top 10 chart entry since 1977, debuting at No. 9. With Chuck Berry, what comes straight to mind are the pulsating rock’n’roll hits of the 50s, such as ‘Roll Over Beethoven’, ‘Johnny B Goode’ and ‘Maybellene’. However, Berry’s prodigious output for Chess Records also gave the revered songwriter the chance to explore his considerable talents as a guitar player and vocalist interpreting the songs of other composers. A host of these covers, along with six of his own originals, were gathered together in 1983 for the intriguing compilation album called Blues. Many of the songs on Blues, recorded by Chess for various single and album releases from 1958 to 1964, feature the music that St Louis-born Berry enjoyed as a teenager. Driftin’ Blues’, for example, was a song he knew from Johnny Moore’s Three Blazers’ club repertoire.

Chuck Berry played his final concert on October 15th, 2014, three days shy of his 88th birthday, at St. Louis’ Blueberry Hill. But like many of his recent performances, it was rough.
