Through the score of Booker T. Jones, the soundtrack to the 1968 Jules Dassin movie Uptight reflects the story of a young black man living in the ghetto during the turbulent time after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. Containing the hit single "Time Is Tight," the soundtrack moves from soft and contemplative ("Children, Don't Get Weary") to driving and urgent ("Run Tank Run").

Melting Pot is a 1971 studio album recorded by Booker T. It is the last album to feature the group's classic lineup of Jones, Cropper, Dunn, and Jackson and the first of their albums to contain longer, jam-oriented compositions. By 1970, st Booker T. Songwriter Interviews. While still a teenager and a studio musician at Stax Records, Booker T. Jones came up with one of the defining instrumentals of soul in "Green Onions. Since then, he's produced Bill Withers' debut and Willie Nelson's Stardust album, recorded with Stephen Stills (on his first album), and backed Neil Young as part of the Bob Dylan 30th anniversary concert, where he led the house band.
