Gillian Welch (born October 2, 1967) is a singer-songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee. Welch plays with her music partner David Rawlings, whom she met while they were both students at The Berklee School of Music. The first two Gillian Welch albums were released through the label Almo Sounds. After Universal Music Group purchased Almo, Welch started her own label, Acony Records. Her most recent release is 2011's The Harrow and The Harvest.

The second in the Gradients compilation album series and curated again by London producer and label head Fracture, Vo. celebrates Fracture's forward-thinking ethos, the label's expansive stylistic roots and the sheer brilliance of catching a vibe. We turn you over to that man Fracture to give you his personal insights on the album and the tracks. It really is my pleasure to present to you Astrophonica's second full length various artist compilation: Gradients Vol. 2. It carries on seamlessly from where Vol. 1 left off with a mix of label regulars, new names and some real head turners. It took some time to curate given the success of Vol. 1 and I'm very proud of it.
