According to her bio, Minnie Driver was a singer long before she ever became an actress. Accordingly, Everything I've Got in My Pocket, her first album, contains ten Driver originals and a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Hungry Heart. The project began as an exhortation by producer Marc "Doc" Dauer, who had heard Driver's songs accompanied by her self-admitted "mangled" guitar playing. Dauer plays guitar and leads a band that includes t Rami Jaffee.

It's an album that's hard to dislike, but it's so exhaustingly agreeable that it tends to amass a death-by-chocolate effect. Driver sings in a pallid tone over backing tracks that drift along dreamily in a shimmer of acoustic guitars, pedal steel or subtly layered keyboards, with the occasional morsel of hip-hoppery or digital sleight-of-hand to lend an aura of cutting-edge modernity.

Unfortunately the songs, however beautiful, are somewhat dull and undistinguishable from the rest(except "Everything I've Got In My Pocket" and "Invisible Girl") and it took quite a while before I warmed up to them. Now they are very soothing to me. It is also unfortunate that the best song "Complicated Man" is only on the import version. I'm loving the sound of her voice in that and hope to hear more of that sound in the future. I wish the rest of the album was in that style. She really needs to release it as a single and make several versions of it as it's her best song.
