Featured in the 1986 film The Karate Kid Part II, it was Cetera's first hit single after he left the band, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and it was included on his 1986 album, Solitude/Solitaire, which Michael Omartian produced.

Peter Cetera, released in 1981, is the self-titled first solo release by then-Chicago member and lead vocalist Peter Cetera. A much more rock-oriented album than Chicago had been producing at the time, Cetera released the album in December 1981 while still a member of the band. Released on Full Moon Records, a subsidiary of Warner Brothers (reissued in 2004 on Wounded Bird Records), the album was not commercially successful. The album features many of Foster's friends and collaborators from the Los Angeles-area studio musician scene who had worked with him on previous releases including his first solo album "The Best of Me" and the St. Elmo's Fire soundtrack. The first track is the instrumental version of the "Love Theme" from the 1985 film St. Elmo's Fire, which also appears on the film's soundtrack. Foster received a Juno Award for "Producer of the Year" for that album in 1986.
